I recently watched the Disney animated film, Tangled, and I loved it. I sat back and truly enjoyed this film. The backgrounds and designs were incredible. An abundance of color, it was almost magical. The story was so much fun and well developed, I kept wondering how many times Disney re-wrote the script to finally come up with the final version. Rapunzel’s design was absolutely fantastic. As an animator I can totally appreciate the time it took to animate all that hair. My god, that hair! I was amazed and curious as to what the rig looked like. How long did it take to come up with a rig that worked, and that appealed to the animators? Her character design was stunning, with those giant blue eyes. Very pretty and very feminine.
The plot is based on the German fairytale Rapunzel by the Brothers Grimm – but Disney’s version is more of a comedy, with a touch of romance. I have to say that my favorite character was the horse Maximus. He was hilarious and very well animated. This is a great film that I will certainly add to my animated collection. If you enjoy 3d animated films, you should definitely watch Tangled.
